Because you don't want to read paragraphs of text here's the deal:
The Project
1) Swami Safari is the first phase of Project Marrakech and is produced by Australian label "etc." ("et cetera.")
2) A new tee is released each month. The first year-long series consists of twelve monthly "chapters". Four artists produces three chapters each.
3) Our first artist for this year is James Hancock (p.s. he rocks and is really easy to work with). We found him through Lost at E Minor which is a great e-newsletter we recommend you subscribe to. Our second artist is Brandon Francis from L.A. who we've worked with before and creates really cool quirky designs.
4) This project is all about exploring art and story-telling. Each month the Swami continues his inner safari and comes across new gods, creatures, heavens, and many other people and places taken from ancient mythology.
5) At the conclusion of the year we'll short list several promising artists and collaborate with our subscribers to determine which will have the opportunity to work with us for that subsequent year.
6) With your kind patronage we want to continue this for several years, showcasing the style of great artists and eventually having a collage of many different styles and intepretations of the same core theme (i.e. Hindu spirituality and ancient mythology)
7) Your support keeps us from starving. Personally I enjoy schnitzel (chicken, not veal).
The Artists
Year 1 - 1 - James Hancock.
We found out about James via Lost at E Minor and caught up with him while he was in Sydney. He loved the idea and themes behind this project and was eager to sign up! Right now (December 2006) he's enjoying himself in Europe where he's in a residency program.
Year 1 - 2 - Brandon Francis
We've worked with Brandon before on our etc. line and loved his work. We've decided to work with him again because his quirky, funky style fits in well with the mythological style we're inspired by.
